Chancellor Jackman Faculty Research Fellowships in the Humanities, 2013-2014

 

Twelve-Month (residential) Fellowships on the Annual Theme of Translation and the Multiplicity of Languages

Research Fellows hold an office on the 10th floor of the Jackman Humanities Building and are the central members of a circle of fellows. They are University of Toronto tenured faculty by the time of their fellowship, chosen for their distinction in achievements relative to their career stage and the excellence of their proposed project, and its relation to the annual theme for 2013-2014.

  • Paul Cohen, Department of History:  Navigating the Languages of Empire
  • Ruth Marshall, Department of Political Science / Department for the Study of Religion:  Speaking in Tongues: Religion and the Call of the Political
  • Jill Ross, Centre for Comparative Literature / Centre for Medieval Studies: Comparative Medieval Rhetorics

Six-Month (non-residential) Fellowships

Tenure-stream or tenured faculty at the University of Toronto, each receives a six-month leave from their normal teaching and administrative duties in order to undertake research (including travel) on the project proposed in their application.  They are chosen for the demonstrated excellence of their record of scholarship and the merit of their research proposal.

  • Susan Antebi, Spanish & Portuguese:  Eugenics and Intercorporeality: Reading Disability in Twentieth-Century Mexican Cultural Production
  • Elizabeth Harney, UTSC Arts Culture & Media:  Prismatic Scatterings: Post-War Global Modernists
