Aging, Memory, Aesthetics

Aging, Memory, Aesthetics

This working group explores inter-related matters of aging and memory. Our goal is to establish the University of Toronto at the forefront of the emerging field of age studies in the humanities. In this third year of our working group, we will develop partnerships with Baycrest Hospital, McMaster University, Trent University, and we will explore further local and global collaborations.  We also plan to develop a textbook that offers flexible syllabi for graduate and undergraduate courses on aging and old age in the humanities.

Our group brings together an interdisciplinary set of graduate students and faculty members to read assigned scholarly texts--drawn from a range of disciplinary perspectives--that address critical issues pertaining to aging and memory. Half of our meetings are reserved for discussion of research/work in progress of group members, and our activities will culminate with a year-end symposium where members of the working group will present and discuss our own research to the community.  We will host two guest speakers at this symposium.

Lead:  Marlene Goldman
