Workshop reading of Colleen Murphy's play produced by Canadian Rep Theatre

Canadian Rep Theatre is pleased to announce a Free Workshop Reading of Colleen Murphy’s Governor General Award winning play:

THE DECEMBER MAN (L’homme de décembre)

starring Kyra Harper, Hardee Lineham and John Shubat
directed by Ken Gass

The reading will take place at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6th at the Luella Massey Studio at 4 Glen Morris Street, at the University of Toronto.  The occasion also marks the 25th Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre at the Polytechnique on December 6, 1989.   Admission Free.

Produced by Canadian Rep Theatre
Co-Presented by The Centre for Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies

“In the aftermath of the 1989 Montreal Massacre, Benoît and Kathleen do everything they can to help their beloved son cope with this guilt and rage… but Jean’s young life becomes unglued.  Using humour and the humdrum of everyday life, Colleen Murphy intuitively moves backwards in time to the fateful day when Jean, the only ray of hope in this working-class family, escaped the massacre… or thought he did. This searing drama on courage, heroism and despair explores the long private shadow that public violence casts.”

Artistic Director Ken Gass states, “We’re very pleased to re-visit this extraordinary play by award-winning playwright, Colleen Murphy, and, in particular, to do so on a day that commemorates the victims of this senseless tragedy.   What Murphy does so well, of course, is show that none of us are islands in the face of these events, that we are all touched in some way by these searing acts of violence.”

Canadian Rep Theatre 2015 Season:
How Do I Love Thee? by Florence Gibson MacDonald (January 31 – February 22)
Armstrong’s War by Colleen Murphy (May 16 – June 7)
