Brief on UitC:
• University in the Community ( started at U of T in 2003), provides free-of-charge, educational and humanities programming for vulnerable adults living in Toronto and the GTA.
• Classes in the humanities and liberal arts are held once a week at Innis College and are taught by professors from a cross-section of departments at U of T and Ryerson University who volunteer their time and experience.
• A second program, 'Thought for Food', is part of CAMH's new Integrated Day Treatment Service program. It is facilitated by Toronto's burgeoning community of chefs and advocates for healthy food.
• UitC believes that all citizens, regardless of socioeconomic status, have the right to an education of the highest standard.
• By supporting our program, U of T recognizes that the flow of knowledge, between the university and the community, and between the community and the university, is a crucial contributor to a healthy and vibrant civic life.
