The Earliest Mittanni Empire: Dim Light from the Dark Age

Maynard P. Maidman, Department of History, York University

The earliest Mittanni Empire, like the earliest stage of the Late Bronze Age in general, is largely unknown, obscured by a lack of documentation. But "largely unknown" does not mean entirely unknowable. Working backwards from slightly later, but much better documented, Iraq and Syria, we may be able to trace when and where to locate the beginnings of this empire. This lecture attempts such a reconstruction.

This event is free and open to all. Registration is not required. Accessible entrance and washrooms are available. For further information or if you have an accommodation need please contact CSMS at (416) 978-4531 and we will do our best to make appropriate arrangements.
