The Consulate General of Italy, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, the Emilio

Goggio Chair in Italian Studies,University of Toronto, and ISSNAF

Ontario with the support of the Italian Embassy in Canada, proudly present

Italy Inspires Canada featuring Dr. Pier Paolo Pandolfi in conversation

with Dr. John Dick. Moderated by Dr. Leonardo Salmena, they will discuss

the latest research and discoveries on the battle against cancer.


Pier Paolo Pandolfi, Professor of Medicine and Pathology at Harvard

Medical School, holds the Reisman Endowed Chair of Medicine, is the Chief

of Division of Genetics at the Department of Medicine at Beth Israel

Deaconess Medical Center, and is the Director of the Cancer Center &

Cancer Research Institute at BIDMC. He has received numerous prestigious

awards. His work has been essential in elucidating the molecular

mechanisms and genetics underlying the pathogenesis of leukemias,

lymphomas and solid tumours.


John Dick, Senior Scientist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and

McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine, University Health Network.

Professor of Molecular Genetics, University of Toronto and Director of the

Cancer Stem Cell Program, Ontario Institute for Cancer Research. In

recognition of his contributions to the research on leukemic human stem

cells, he was elected as a Fellow of the American Association for Cancer

Research Academy in 2016.


Leonardo Salmena, Canada Research Chair, Signal Transduction and

Gene Regulation in Cancer. Assistant Professor, Department of

Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Toronto. Affiliate Scientist,

Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
