The Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations presents

Perspectives on the Development of Iran's Economy during the 1940s

Mary Yoshinari
Department of History, University of Toronto

This presentation will analyze particular aspects of Iran's economy that were gradually brought under Allied control during World War II. It will also highlight the role of key officials, both foreign and local, in the wartime and immediate postwar period. It will conclude by briefly discussing the Iranian government's postwar policy, as it sought to revive the national economy in response to economic and moral decline, while taking stock of industrial enterprises, human capital, and international alliances.

This event is free and open to all. For further information, please contact The Department of Near & Middle Eastern Civilizations at (416) 978-3306
