EXHIBITION: Art Museum at the University of Toronto 

Featuring Sobey Art Award Shortlisted Artists: Raymond Boisjoly, Jacynthe Carrier, Ursula Johnson, Divya Mehra and Bridget Moser

Moderated by Robert Enright (Canadian journalist, art critic, and academic. Founder and the editor-at-large of Border Crossings)

The five shortlisted artists’ for the 2017 Sobey Art Award will discuss their artistic practices in the context of the Canadian and international art scenes, moderated by Robert Enright. The panel talk will be followed by the public opening reception of the artists’ exhibitions at the Art Museum at the University of Toronto.  
 
Robert Enright is the senior contributing editor for Border Crossings magazine and teaches art theory and criticism in the graduate program of the School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph. He has written extensively about contemporary art and has conducted hundreds of interviews with artists in Border Crossings and in books and exhibition catalogues. In 2005 he was made a Member of the Order of Canada and in 2016 was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Winnipeg.

Rob Sobey, Chair of the Sobey Art Foundation, Barbara Fischer, Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Art Museum at the University of Toronto, Harriet E. Walker, Interim Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Gallery of Canada, and Marc Mayer, Director and CEO of the National Gallery of Canada, cordially invite you to the public opening of the 2017 Sobey Art Award Exhibition.

As part of the Sobey Art Award’s mandate to reflect and promote Canadian contemporary art, an exhibition of the shortlisted artists’ work is organized at a guest art institution in odd years and at the National Gallery of Canada in even years. In 2017, the work of the five shortlisted artists’ will be exhibited at the Art Museum at the University of Toronto.
 
Organized by the National Gallery of Canada and the Sobey Art Foundation in collaboration with the Art Museum at the University of Toronto.
