Lecture and Q&A: 5:30-7:00 pm • Reception 7:00-8:00 pm
“The Study of Religion, Then and Now” is a landmark conversation between two of the DSR’s most distinguished alumni, Professor Jane McAuliffe (MA ’79, PhD ’84) and Professor Amir Hussain (MA ’90, PhD ’01), with discussion moderator Professor Amira Mittermaier.
Professor McAuliffe is an eminent scholar of the Qur’an and Muslim-Christian relations. She served as chair of the DSR (1992 to 1998) before becoming dean of Georgetown College at Georgetown University and later president of Bryn Mawr College. Professor McAuliffe was also president of the American Academy of Religion in 2004.
Professor Hussain is a leading scholar of religion specializing in the study of Islam. A professor in the Department of Theological Studies at Loyola Marymount University, he also served as the president of the American Academy of Religion in 2022, after a long run as editor of the flagship Journal of the American Academy of Religion.
We are delighted to have Professor McAuliffe and Professor Hussain joining us to kick off our 50th anniversary celebrations.
