I hold a PhD in Classical Studies from the University of Michigan and have taught at the University of Toronto since 1988 in the Department of Classics and the Institute for Women and Gender Studies. In the past I have served as Editor of Phoenix, Journal of the Classical Association of Canada (2002-07), and President of the Classical Association of Canada (2010-12).

What I'm Working On:
I am currently writing a book for I.B. Taurus, in their series "Understanding Classics", on the Latin poet Vergil and his works. The book sets Vergil's poetics in the contexts of both his philosophical formation and the historical and political upheavals of his lifetime. Two other ongoing projects are a commentary on the fourth book of Ovid's Metamorphoses for Cambridge University Press, and a SSHRC-funded project on the reception of Ovid's Metamorphoses in imperial Latin epic.
