Queer Theory

Queer Theory

This working group explores new turns and challenges in queer theory through a collaborative interdisciplinary approach, which values fluidity between fields and departments. In our second year, we will analyze and deconstruct unexpected intersections of queer theory and a range of disciplines, with a particular focus on queer explorations of spatiality and temporality – increasingly popular themes in the humanities which invite discussion on theorizations and experiences of settler colonialism, queer futurity and power, among many other areas of interest. Our discussions will be framed through this particular lens to allow for in depth explorations of queer theory. Ultimately, one of our primary objectives is to engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue and to examine pertinent questions about power, homonormativity and academia.

We will continue to approach our readings from a place of inclusivity, questioning and critical inquiry. In addition to monthly readings, we will also integrate outings to community events, films and galleries. The group will apply and complicate the readings discussed through artistic engagement, and through the exploration of physical spaces, our group will practically examine the spatial dynamics and temporal experiences discussed in the readings.
