When and Where

Tuesday, February 20, 2024 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm

Description

Humanities researchers, are you ready to publish but need some guidance on placing your article?

Publication in top-tier journals is one of the most effective means to demonstrate research excellence and this record is often used to assess academic CVs and tenure dossiers. This JHI workshop is designed to assist all early career researchers to place an article in the top-tier journals in their field.

The workshop will feature a roundtable discussion with senior faculty members who also serve as journal editors, members of editorial boards, and journal peer reviewers.

Faculty speakers Lindsay M. Montgomery (Department of Anthropology & Centre for Indigenous Studies) and Lawrence Switzky (Department of English & Drama, UTM) will draw on their experiences as journal editors, members of editorial boards, and journal peer reviewers to share insights on what editors are looking for in a publication-worthy submission, their recommendations for determining what journal is right for your article, and best practices for working with journal editors.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  •     Determine which publication is best for you
  •     Craft an acceptance-worthy draft for submission to the journal
  •     Reach out to the editor of your discipline’s top journal
  •     Implement peer-review feedback
