Haiti and Decolonization in Biblical and Religious Studies: Christian Origins, Liberation Theologies, and Vodou

Elizabeth McAlister (Wesleyan University): Contemporary White American missionaries to Haiti and the paradoxes of decolonization (including discussion of missionary representation of Vodou as “Satanic”)
Nathan Leach (University of Texas at Austin): The politics of missionary financial patronage in Pauline letters and in Haiti.  
Celucien Joseph (Indian River State College): Theology and violence in the writings of Jean-Bertrand Aristide
Henri Claude Télusma (Université de Strasbourg): The anthropological analysis of religion and mental pathology in Haiti  
Lewis Ampidu Clorméus (Université d’Haiti): 19th century anti-vodou laws in Haiti
Ronald Charles (University of Toronto) will provide a response to these papers to help foster discussion between them.
