We are pleased to announce the 2024-25 UTM-JHI Seminar:
The Theatre of Science
Madeleine Mant, Anthropology and Martin Revermann, Historical Studies
This Seminar will examine ways that the sciences and theatre as performance interact by exploring four questions:
- What are the key areas of contact between science/technology and theatre/performance?
- Which sciences attract theatrical interest?
- Where and how does scientific knowledge begin and end?
- How can theatrical performance contribute to a reconceptualization of scientific knowledge?
This Seminar will bring undergraduate and graduate student researchers into conversation with playwrights, directors, authors, and scientists who have examined this conjunction. It is projected to generate a published study titled The Theatre of Science: Re-thinking Scientific Knowledge through the Interfaces between Science, Theatre and Performance Art.
